Wilder ‘at top of the foodchain’ after Ortiz win

“He’s looking at it, Everyone thinks this guy can beat me, so that’s the guy I want to fight, because I’m going to beat him”. He put up a great fight. The end seemed near.

America’s heavyweight boxing champion and the best light heavyweights from Russian Federation are being featured on two different boxing cards in NY on Saturday night, but it’s the Cubans who will be trying to steal the show at the respective venues. His vaunted right hand set the wheels in motion and the follow-up volley knocked Ortiz off his pins. To prove he’s the man in the glamour division of the sweet science, a victory over Luis Ortiz would be a nice addition to his resume. Deontay Wilder lands a big punch that drops Ortiz and has him wobbled pretty bad.

“This fight is not only important for my family, but for Cuban boxing history”, said Ortiz.

The ninth round had more boos from the crowd but with his trademark right cocked throughout, Wilder was either appeasing the Brooklyn boxing fans or realising that maybe Ortiz’s efforts were taking their toll.

Despite the earlier adversity, Wilder was confident he would find a way to finish Ortiz.

But Ortiz did not last and was down and out after a vicious uppercut from Wilder.

“We’re ready to fight the biggest fight possible”, the trainer said. “I am the best and I am ready to show it come Saturday night that I am the best in the world”. I didn’t want to rush in. But you have to give him credit, he weathered the storm.

“I figured out a way to come back”.

But Wilder changed the dynamic of the fight in Round 5 when he stunned Ortiz with a straight hand with 15 seconds remaining in the round, and then followed up immediately with another right hand that sent Ortiz to the canvas.

“I tell you this though: Ortiz definitely had more fundamental skills than Wladimir Klitschko“. The fight will be held at the Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, and televised by Showtime, and it is created to be a showcase for Wilder. Ortiz barely makes the 10 count but says he is fine to continue.

Wilder certainly won’t go down as the most technically sound heavyweight champion in history but there’s no doubting his power or questioning his ideal professional record. It was clear in the first fight that I would be even better in the second fight, “said Uzcategui”.

Ortiz who failed to become the first heavyweight champion from Cuba thought that he nearly had Wilder done in the 7th if he had few more seconds to spare.

First, Ortiz: The Cuban defector (28-0, 24 KOs) gets a shot at the heavyweight title after a positive test for a banned substance ruined a chance to fight Wilder (39-0, 38 KOs) last November. The defense of Ortiz seemed to bother Wilder from throwing his right. I wanted it to go the 12 rounds with both guys on their feet because I thought they deserved it.
