Winter Storm Could Wreak Havoc on Tuesday Commute

March 01 20:06 2016

Around 20 centimetres of snow is expected to fall by Wednesday morning thanks to an intense low pressure system from Texas that’s prompted a winter storm warning from Environment Canada.

Light snow began early in the day on Tuesday and was expected to intensify into the evening, creating whiteout conditions in some areas. Tonight, the snowfall is expected to be heavy at times and winds will be gusting to 70 km/h.

Environment Canada is cautioning the public that the blowing snow is likely to be severe and make travel hazardous.

A blizzard warning is in effect in many areas, including Montreal and Quebec City.

The timing could make Tuesday morning’s commute treacherous, meteorologists warned.

Winds will also be a problem with this storm.

Overnight, driving conditions will be treacherous. The Toronto District School Board, however, said there are no current plans to cancel programs or activities at its schools.

For travellers heading east, or using Toronto as a connection, it’s best to check your flight before heading to the airport.

Potential snow accumulations could be between 5 to 10 inches. “North of us, it still very much feels like winter”.
