Wisconsin sinks the boat, beats Western Michigan for Cotton Bowl win

Western Michigan proved it belonged on the big stage on Monday, but a big and talented Wisconsin team dashed the Broncos’ hopes of an undefeated season and Cotton Bowl victory. He posted 10 tackles, including four solo, and an interception. “We had some bad luck, but didn’t panic, and the defense made some stops and we got on a roll”. Hosting Purdue and Maryland, as well as going on the road to IL and IN, should provide this Badgers football team an opportunity to work on things and get back on track if things happen to go awry.

“It was overwhelming, all the support I got from my friends and just people on campus”, Carson says.

Terrell kept Western Michigan’s hopes alive with a heave into the end zone that Davis brought down to make it a 24-16 game with 3:27 remaining.

Wisconsin specialists: The Badgers lost junior kicker Rafael Gaglianone for the season due to injury, and former walk-on Andrew Endicott has 12-of-18 with a long of 52 in his place. The Badgers had a shot to beat MI on the road this past season, but just could not get it done.

Win, and the Badgers, the Big Ten West champs, beat a team they were supposed to; lose, and it would have been embarrassed by a Group of 5 team. “He’s big, he’s skilled”.

“He’s unbelievable”, Western Michigan head coach P.J. Fleck said. Freshman D’Wayne Eskridge might be the fastest player on the team and showed plenty of flashes, including a nine-catch performance against Eastern Michigan.

Wisconsin Badger football fans are happy and maybe a little relieved after beating the Western Michigan Broncos, 24-16.

With 3:39 left in the game, then, Terrell sprinted away from trouble toward the right sideline while Davis worked his way to the far corner of the end zone in front of him.

Even more rare for Western Michigan was a 14-point deficit, the largest the Broncos faced this season. While Clement did the dirty work, wide receivers Jazz Peavy and Quintez Cephus enjoyed the spoils of the misdirection game off of Clement’s work up the middle, picking up big gains with tons of open field on quick handoffs.

Hornibrook, who did not play in the Big Ten title game because he was recovering from a concussion suffered in the regular-season finale against Minnesota, said coming off the bench for the first time since Week 3 was an adjustment.

“Put your oar in the water and just keep rowing”, Fleck said of his message to players. “You can’t do both sometimes, so we took advantage of that, and that’s where we went”. “We will embrace our past to create our future, and it just wasn’t enough tonight”.

“But when you dig a 14-0 hole against the eighth-ranked team in the country, it’s tough to climb out of”.

For Western Michigan, the outlook isn’t as rosy. Many dismissed the 13-0 Broncos as a byproduct of a mid-major conference and a weak schedule. Corey Clement and Dare Ogunbowale each scored on touchdown runs in the opening frame. WMU finished with 280 total yards. On at least one play, the Badgers’ lined up with four of them in an offensive formation. Houston completed 11 of his 12 passing attempts for 159 yards.
