A college fundraiser fatally shot his niece and her 4-year-old son at their suburban Indianapolis home Wednesday, following a dispute over a family trust worth millions of dollars, before killing himself inside a downtown hotel room, authorities said. They said he initially fired at police from his Hilton Garden Inn room, but there were no indications that any officers were hurt.
Hamilton’s self-inflicted gunshot wounds ended a manhunt that began with the deaths of Katherine Janet Giehll and her son Raymond Peter Giehll IV on her 31st birthday, The Indianapolis Star reported.
Boone County Sheriff Mike Nielsen says investigators don’t yet know a motive for the slayings.
Wabash College is on lock down and classes have been canceled for the remainder of the day while police search the campus for a man wanted in connection with a double homicide in Boone County.
This morning at approximately 8:50 in Zionsville, Indiana, a northwest suburb of Indianapolis, police were called to the 6800 block of Old Hunt Club Road.
Bursten said Hamilton was the brother of the Katherine Giehll’s father.
IN state Police say they found him in room 401 on the fourth floor.
A release was sent out to students, faculty and staff members. they were asked to remain indoors and shelter in place. The man is employed by Wabash College in nearby Crawfordsville. Through many investigative techniques, we were able track Hamilton down to a specific location in downtown Indianapolis where he cowardly took his life instead of choosing to face justice for his actions.
“This is a very tragic event”, Sheriff Michael Nielsen said in a statement.
Hamilton was the senior major gifts officer for the private, all-male liberal arts school, according to the college’s website.
“In my 32 years in law enforcement I have never witnessed a crime so heinous and heartbreaking”, he said.
