Wonder Woman is slaying the competition at the USA box office on it’s opening weekend.
Fox News commentators are upset at Wonder Woman’s lack of USA patriotism in her new film, despite her actually being a fictional Amazonian princess.
It turns out Fox News host Neil Cavuto and his guests had a major issue with “Wonder Woman“.
It looks as though Patty Jenkins could already be set to return for “Wonder Woman 2″.
That’s because in addition to taking in $38-million during its domestic debut on Friday, “Wonder Woman” is also dominating worldwide box office numbers.
According to Forbes, it’s made about US$100 million Stateside and an estimated US$86 million at the global box office.
Directed by Patty Jenkins, the film also marks the biggest opening weekend ever for a female director. From the $85.9 million, $38.8 million are from domestic sales and $47.1 million are from sales overseas.
Thanks to those huge numbers, the Gal Gadot-starring superhero vehicle is shining on a new light on women in film. She will also be appearing the DC ensemble film Justice League (2017).
A costume alone does not a superhero (or successful film) make, as we’ve clearly seen from the surging support for Wonder Woman this weekend. The Wonder Woman vs Ares fight, the Wonder Woman “No Man’s Land” battle, and the Amazonian battle at the beginning were done really well. Now that it was released, the figure supported the poll.
When ComicBook.com spoke to Connie Nielsen, who plays Hippolyta, in May she explained what she believed a reunion between Diana and Hippolyta would be like.
Just like Diana Prince a.k.a Wonder Woman, only a very few Americans knew Gal Gadot until this film.
The Wonder Woman breakthrough comes six months ahead of the release of DC’s Justice League, a superhero ensemble that will bring together Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Aquaman.
