WWDC 2017: watchOS 4 Brings Updates and New Faces to Apple Watch

Additional new faces includes a “Kaleidoscope” watch face that displays a symmetrical pattern throughout the day, which can be customized using a picture from the user’s photo library, a swell as three new animated faces for popular Toy Story characters Woody, Jessie, and Buzz. The Siri watchface, as the name suggests, learns from your routine, and shows relevant information based on time and your location. In the morning, you’ll be offered commute times, upcoming appointments, and weather information, while the afternoon may bring up workout activity shortcuts. Apple at the event also showcased the all-new Apple Watch dock which will now be vertical. The app also tries to guess what you want to hear, so you’ll see music and playlists that you listen to automatically updated on your watch.

When it comes to the tvOS, Tim Cook didn’t really say much other than “you’ll be hearing more about it later this year”.

Users will also be hoping for improvements to tracking statistics, making it easier to share a wider set of stats among friends and on social media. “15 minutes of running”. The machines will provide the watch with improved data on burnt calories, distances, speed, pace, and more, producing the most accurate workout data possible for a consumer-grade fitness tracker.

The Activity app will deliver achievement progress notifications and monthly challenges, while the Workout app will be able to sync with gym equipment via NFC and boasts a refreshed user interface. Fitness maniacs will now be able to track HIIT (High-intensity interval training) as they please. You can also do multiple workouts in a single session, like triathletes do.

In case you’re into triathlons, pentathlon, or even decathlons, watchOS 4 will let you easily switch between different sports tracking by simply swiping over the activity app’s home screen. Here are the most important new features.

However, some of the less sexy but more exciting features involve things that are arriving under the hood. “In WatchOS 4 we’ve come up with a great solution to this”.

watchOS 4 will be available this fall as a free update to Apple Watch paired with iPhone® 5s and later on iOS 11.
