Will the losers of the two title matches enter the Rumble? So us splitting apart, I don’t see it in the cards, not this year. With WrestleMania closing in, what better place to get that experience than at the Royal Rumble? The rumor mill has been churning as it does every year for a couple of months now, with people like Kota Ibushi, Kyle O’Reilly and any of WWE‘s UK Championship tournament competitors being talked about for a slot. Last year’s Rumble was won by surprise entrant Triple H, who is 40/1 to repeat the feat this year.
Instead, fans sense a general feeling of unpredictability that is both refreshing and what fans yearn for in the first place. More on this as news becomes available. I have been a wrestling fan for most of my life.
Still, simply saying that wrestlers are slightly more motivated if they’re assigned one of the earliest numbers doesn’t quite explain why number #1 is such a decent sweepstake pick up.
Huge names are already in, such as Brock Lesnar, Goldberg and The Undertaker – but there is another name that has quietly flown under the radar in the build-up to the event.
For one, despite getting his start in the WWE, Kurt continued to wrestle at other promotions after he left the company. Given all these credentials, the odds could greatly favor any of the three despite their age.
It is always a tough task to predict who will win the 30-man Royal Rumble match, but it is especially hard this year with the field being as stacked as it is.
WWE is kicking off 2017 with what could possibly be one of its best pay-per-views of the year. My long term hope is that Bayley walks out of Mania with it, but for now I am calling that Charlotte’s PPV winning streak continues. You have to take betting odds with a grain of salt, but Strowman will not and cannot main event a WrestleMania yet. The Phenomenal One has been so good over the past few months as a heel that the WWE fans are showing a lot of appreciation and they’re pushing hard for him to be in the main event of Wrestlemania.
Ticket information for the Royal Rumble will be announced soon. In case anyone thought that was a fluke, the following year saw a much less exciting shock, when the Honky Tonk Man showed up to get hit in the head with his own guitar.
Even contenders have their predictions on who they think will come out as victor on Sunday. Other betting favorites include Jericho, Randy Orton and even a surprise return by Finn Balor, WWE’s first Universal heavyweight champion, who had to vacate the title due to a shoulder injury last August, 24 hours after winning the championship. It’s all been intentionally vague to fortify the Rumble match’s unpredictability, but that’s only helped with the intrigue.
WWE’s largest athlete, SC native Big Show (Paul Wight), also will be in the Rumble, and it’s rumored that National Basketball Association great Shaquille O’Neal might show up as well, setting up their expected match at Wrestlemania. Kevin Owens will defend the WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns, while AJ Styles will put the WWE Championship on the line against John Cena.
