DNA evidence links Lewis to the crime scene and to Vetrano, Boyce said. “Each one was vetted painstakingly by detectives”, he said.
The sample was rushed to the Medical Examiner’s Office, which at 3 p.m. Saturday tied Lewis to Vetrano’s slaying, according to sources. “Within two days, we had a hit”.

The next day, officials said that there is evidence Vetrano was strangled and possibly sexually assaulted.
Cops “had been working, trying to convince this person to come forward and provide information”, the source added.
The family raised more than $287,000 as of Saturday night.

Vetrano’s parents had asked the state for additional DNA testing on Thursday.
