Australia’s team doctor Peter Brukner has called on the International Cricket Council to take a “very serious” look at introducing concussion substitutes for Test cricket after the withdrawal of opener Matt Renshaw from the third Test.
David Warner joined the illustrious company of Don Bradman and Victor Trumper with a Test century before lunch as rookie partner Matthew Renshaw flourished for his maiden hundred against Pakistan on Tuesday.
The home side decided against enforcing follow-on despite securing a first-innings lead of 223 runs, deciding instead to bat aggressively and set Pakistan a big target with three-and-a-half sessions to bowl the opposition out. The scored meant Pakistan were left with a monumental task of making 410 runs in order to make amends for their test series loss in Melbourne.
Younis Khan on Thursday became the first player in the history of Test cricket to score centuries in 11 countries, including the United Arab Emirates.
“These days with head knocks you’ve got to take them quite seriously”, Australia’s bowling coach David Saker said of Renshaw.
Younis Khan propped up Pakistan with a landmark century but Australia continued to dominate the third Test in Sydney.
“We can’t work any harder at our fielding”, Arthur said.
“There was a lot of concern”, Warner said.
Renshaw shared a 142-run partnership with Handscomb but the opener only added 17 runs to his overnight score, lasting less than 30 minutes into the second day after edging an Imran Khan (2-111) delivery onto his stumps. Interestingly, Warner is the only player to achieve the feat during a Test match in Australia.
After the disastrous run out of Azhar Ali for 71 Pakistan started to fall apart with no other batsman cracking twenty as yet.
“Younus has been a great servant for Pakistan cricket and scoring a hundred here as well”.
Misbah’s most immediate assignment after the Australia series will be in the United Arab Emirates in the Pakistan Super League with Islamabad United, which starts on February 9. Inzamam (ul-Haq) is also there.
“I love to perform for my country, for my team and whenever my team needs me, it’s a little bit late this time, but I am a proud Pakistani and at least I have made a hundred in Australia“, said the veteran cricketer.
