YouTube tightens ad and compliance rules

In a separate post, Paul Muret, the vice-president of display, video and analytics on YouTube, said that the channels included in Google Preferred will be manually curated and ads will only run on videos that have been verified to meet ad-friendly guidelines. Now that YouTube has eliminated that possibility, you can expect the number of entertaining one-off videos to drastically decrease. Over the past 10 years I’m at nearly 400 videos published on the site.

Google is vowing to have people review every second of the most popular videos eligible for advertising by the end of March worldwide, and it is modifying the prerequisites for having a commercial channel. 1,000 subscribers for a channel is already a big number for those getting started but the new requirements now make it very hard for those looking to join. His channel, SG Gaming Info, doesn’t bring him much revenue, but the money he earns from ads is a nice incentive to keep posting. Most of its negative press is due to large content creators like Logan Paul, not a guy with 250 subs that releases a video once a month. It’s possible YouTube saw this as an issue since a person could have one successful video but not have the subscribers or views on any other videos to back it up.

For the past couple of years, YouTube has been tightening its rules around video monetisation, making it harder earn on the platform.

“I want to see what happens by the time February comes around”, said Meehan. YouTube does not want your videos. “I’ve never faced criticism like this before, because I’ve never made a mistake like this before”. The company is working on what the criteria will be and is expected to provide an update soon. They could simply require a channel be active for a few months before monetizing.

I honestly really sympathise with them. They’re never going to get 1,000 subscribers.

Susan Wojcicki, CEO of YouTube, said: “Human reviewers remain essential to both removing content and training machine learning systems because human judgment is critical to making contextualized decisions on content”. It’s certainly not my fault. “These new guidelines are insane for small YouTubers”. New channels will need to apply, and their application will be evaluated when they hit these milestones. If that sounds familiar, that’s because YouTube has made similar promises in the past. And to have that ability taken away from me just because I don’t now meet an arbitrary threshold set by you isn’t (and I hate to use this word) fair.

Still, sprinkled amongst the Two Minutes Hate and Ow, My Balls! that YouTube has become, Kandi Burruss you could still find quality from the small creators.

The announcement has already led to criticism from some of the small YouTube channels. Why are we paying for YouTube’s inability to properly enforce their own rules? It did also, however, include a complete mess up of a supposed kids channel allowing completely unsuitable content to air. I love YouTube. But I also believe I deserve to be compensated for content I create.

However, the content on Google Preferred has not always been very palatable to advertisers. In the past, any channels could join the program as long as they met certain viewership requirements.
